People take up Muay Thai for various reasons. Some want to lose weight, while others want to use this sport to take their fitness and health to a whole new level. If you plan to travel to Thailand and train in Muay Thai while you are there, here are some tips for you.

1. Look for a training camp that suits your needs. In most major cities in Thailand, you can find a lot of Muay Thai training camps. Make sure that you join one that is most suitable for you. If you are a female and feel more comfortable training in a camp that is geared towards women, there are training camps with programs designed for women.
2. Know what to expect. When you enter a Muay Thai training camp for the first time in Thailand, you'll likely hear some hard thumping and loud grunting. You'll also see trainers and trainees in superb shape. Don't be intimidated. It's unlikely that you'll be training with them. You'll start by practicing some basic Muay Thai techniques. You may also work on some pads and bags.
3. What equipment to bring. Who would want to travel with exercise equipment?! With Muay Thai, you don't need a lot of equipment to train. You'll find most of what you need at the training camp. For your first lesson, wear a t-shirt and a pair of loose-fitting shorts. You won't need special shoes, as Muay Thai is practiced with barefeet. Once you become more experienced with the sport, you may want to invest in a mouthguard that protect your teeth.
4. Prepare for your first class. Muay Thai training is exhausting. That's why it is a great fitness program for those who want to lose weight. If you have plan to join a Muay Thai training camp when you travel to Thailand, you may want to start a fitness regime a few weeks in advance. This is especially helpful for people who don't exercise regularly.
5. Have fun. Muay Thai is an intensive sport, and you don't have to train all day to see results. Don't over-stress your body. Thailand has a lot of beautiful sights and beaches so make sure that you spend some time to explore this exotic country in between your training sessions.
